Happiness vs. unhappiness = facts vs. opinions. Dr. Maltz gives examples of people who were unhappy because they confused the facts of the situation with their opinion (or interpretation) of the events, and was asked to boil down the entire book into the one main statement or skill that is the “make it or break it” factor in successful vs. unsuccessful living, and here’s what he said: “The essence of Psycho-Cybernetics is the accurate, calm, and ultimately automatic separation of fact from fiction, fact from opinion, actual circumstance from magnified obstacle, so that our actions and reactions are solidly based on truth, not our own or others’ opinions.” We probably could have used more of that during the recent election campaign!
