The other day I got to see and hear Todd Duncan, author of Time Traps and 13 other books, speak at a real estate gathering. He said lots of great things, but these two really stuck out and I thought they were worth sharing:
1. Take 5 minutes out of every hour to stop and look back at the last 55 minutes you just used. Were you focused on dollar productive activities (if it was work oriented)? Were you on purpose? Were you having fun and doing what you love? Or did you squander those 55 minutes, never to have them back again? Obviously, make whatever changes are necessary before you begin the next hour.
2. Apply the Pareto Principle (also known as the 80/20 Rule) as follows: 80/20 your 80/20! In other words, let’s say you had 50 things to do on your To-Do list. Applying the 80/20 Rule (20% of those To-Dos will produce 80% of the results you want) you would come up with 10 items that will give you the most bang for your buck. Now apply the 80/20 Rule to those 10 items, and you’re left with just 2 that will make the biggest difference in your life, whether it’s for business or personal. I thought that was brilliant!
Let me know what you think of this, and feel free to share any insights you come with.
